FARGO — After months of tense trade talks between the U.S. and China, there is a sign of hope for soybean farmers across the country.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday, Oct. 30, that China has agreed to buy 12 million metric tons of soybeans between now and January, along with 25 million metric tons annually for the next three years.

The announcement comes after President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

Justin Sherlock, president of the North Dakota Soybean Growers Association, said while the agreement has not yet been finalized on paper, it represents a step in the right direction.
