WASHINGTON (KMOT/KFYR) – Members of North Dakota’s Congressional delegation shared optimism about reports Thursday that China agreed to buy 25 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans annually .
The deal comes as President Donald Trump met with his Chinese counterpart during a trip overseas. Concerns have grown among American soybean producers, including those in North Dakota , who have fallen in the middle of a trade war with China over the crop. It’s also creating tension for those who manage elevators that store the crop .
According to the Associated Press , Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-ND, called the soybean purchase agreement a “start” and praised Pres. Trump’s optimism about his meeting with his Chinese counterpart.
