A Colbert County restaurant is stepping up to ensure no one goes hungry during the government shutdown. The owner of Russell Barbecue in Sheffield has taken to Facebook, inviting anyone struggling to sign up for assistance.
Within hours, Josh Russell said he received responses from dozens of families, with even more on a waiting list.
"I think it just goes back to growing up. My family, we didn't have a lot of money growing up," Russell said. "When me and my wife got married 11 years ago, everything was paycheck to paycheck. We struggled sometimes with figuring out what we were going to eat, trying to make groceries last. And I know in the last ten years a lot of economics have changed and a lot of things have gotten more expensive, so I know the strain that can put on a family."
