Oakland leaders say some of the most violent criminals in the area are now off the streets.

Leaders on Thursday offered new details on a massive raid targeting alleged gang members – people they claim are responsible for more than two dozen murders.

“The shootings have been across the board throughout our community,” Oakland police Assistant Chief James Beere said. “Extremely dangerous. It’s put our entire community at risk.”

Police detailed the extent of violence that two Oakland-based Sureño gangs are accused of, including 31 homicides – 24 in Oakland alone – attempted murder, firearm trafficking and more.

“Serious felony assaults, include beatings with baseball bats, stabbings, pistol whippings,” Beere said. “It was a very organized crew.”
