San Jose has approved a massive new housing project in the northern part of the city.

Set among several tech companies, the area along River Oaks Parkway has been approved for more than 700 new homes – 132 of them earmarked as affordable units.

“The need to build housing at every economic point in our community continues to be one of our most important mandates,” Santa Clara County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg said Thursday.

No date for groundbreaking and project completion was immediately given.
