LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Tomar Mills stepped onto the McNeese volleyball court Oct. 9, months after ringing the bell, and was honored by her daughter, senior McNeese volleyball player D’Nari Mills, for beating breast cancer.

Tomar Mills, a nurse practitioner at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, served before the “Dig Pink” breast cancer awareness match.

“It felt like I was rewarding her for making it through the process,” D’Nari Mills said about presenting her mother with flowers on the court.

Tomar Mills had been getting mammograms since she was 35 because breast cancer runs in her family. About two and a half years ago, doctors found a spot on her right breast that they monitored with mammograms and ultrasounds. An MRI in December 2024 revealed it was stage 0 to 1 invasive mam
