ZEBULON, N.C. (WNCN) — Federal court records reveal Wellington Dickens III, charged with murdering four of his five children over the summer and hiding their bodies, spent years pursuing lawsuits rooted in his religious beliefs against local hospitals and county agencies.

In two separate federal cases, Dickens argued government and hospital actions violated his faith. Both lawsuits were ultimately dismissed, but they show a man who believed he was following God’s orders, a mindset that would later take a much darker turn.

In 2018, Dickens sued WakeMed and Wake County, saying the hospital violated his faith by performing tests on his newborn daughter, even though he and his wife had refused the use of needles, vaccines, and medications on their baby due to religious beliefs.
