WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Sedgwick County is celebrating this week’s decision by the Kansas Department of Corrections to freeze the funding formula for the 2026 Community Corrections Act.
Under the originally proposed formula, Sedgwick County would have seen a 38 percent decrease in funding, which county leaders had described as “devastating”.
On Thursday, 12 News had an exclusive interview with Sedgwick County Commissioner Ryan Baty, who talked about what it took to get KDOC to reconsider the funding cut.
“I think we all agree there needs to be a better funding formula,” said Baty. “But the result of that was really going to harm the citizens of Sedgwick County.”
