WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Gov. Laura Kelly sued Attorney General Kris Kobach on Friday, claiming he has failed to defend Kansans against what she calls the Trump Administration’s unlawful federal overreach.
Kelly said Kobach shows partisanship in favor of President Donald Trump in his work as attorney general. The governor also cited confusion over who leads Kansas litigation.
Constitutional authority dispute
Kelly’s lawsuit asks the Kansas Supreme Court to issue an “order in quo warranto,” which challenges whether Kobach is overstepping his legal powers. Kelly claims Kobach is intruding on her powers as governor and wants the court to order him to stop interfering.
