Dana Achtzehn doesn't know how much longer he has to live. He's tried to get it out of his doctor, but coudn't get a timetable, only being told that nowadays with lung cancer, it is so much different than 30 years ago.

It was 30 years ago that the former Scottsdale Saguaro basketball star lost his father to stage 4 lung cancer at 56. That is Dana's age now. After being diagnosed on Oct. 13, 2024, with the same illness that claimed his father, Achtzehn continued leading the Scottsdale Desert Mountain girls volleyball program.
