Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to continue their fragile ceasefire following marathon talks in Istanbul, mediated by Turkey and Qatar, according to a joint statement released by Turkey’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

“All parties have agreed to put in place a monitoring and verification mechanism that will ensure maintenance of peace and impose penalties on the violating party,” the statement said, describing the understanding as a “constructive step toward regional stability.”

The negotiations, held from October 25 to 30, marked a crucial attempt to ease border tensions that had flared earlier this month after deadly cross-border clashes and mutual accusations of airstrikes.
