BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — In preparation for the halt in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding set to take effect in November, Governor Kelly Armstrong announced more than $1.5 million in state funds to support food assistance programs.

Armstrong directed North Dakota Health and Human Services to provide $915,000 to Great Plains Food Bank and $600,000 to support the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) program through November.

Lawmakers from both sides of the political aisle praised the move by Gov. Armstrong, with Republicans commending him for making this move and calling on Democrats to reopen the government.

Democrats acknowledged the necessity of providing food assistance, while urging Congressional Republicans to address what they describe as an impending health crisis
