LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A first-of-its-kind picnic table that’s accessible for everyone was unveiled in Shepherdsville Park on Thursday after coming to life at First Build.

Bullitt County students, UofL students, GE Appliances engineers and city leaders showed that if we all work together, we really can make the world a better place.

“Going back in time, there was no accessible parking,” said Dan Sowder, who lost his leg to a drunk driver. “There were no wheelchair ramps.”

Sowder remembers a time when the world was not very accessible. He also remembers a time when that issue was not one he thought much about.

“I was riding a motorcycle,” Sowder said. “We were out on the West Coast on a vacation. A drunk driver ran a stop sign and plowed into the side.
