As domestic violence awareness month comes to a close, we are highlighting a thrift shop in Southbury where every sale helps survivors, but their ability to do that is getting more difficult amid rollbacks in federal funding.
Safe Haven Thrift Shop on Main Street is carefully curated by Susan McNeil. She said that kind of selectivity brings in a lot of customers and most things don't stay in the store for long.

“We tend to focus more on the labels that, quite frankly, have maybe a little more value to them," she said. "I'm a little obsessed with it, to get the best stuff."
Proceeds go back to Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, a domestic violence agency. Thrift sales make up 11% of the agency's budget, about $300,000
