SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - One local organization is scrambling after federal funding stopped, trying to keep meals on the table for seniors in need.

The federal shutdown is threatening the funding that fuels Meals on Wheels programs across the country including in coastal Georgia. Patti Lyons, president of Senior Citizens Inc., said the uncertainty is growing as SNAP benefits are set to end, creating what she called a devastating situation for seniors who rely on both programs for food security.

“We work with our hospitals,” she said. “They know what’s coming. If this doesn’t get settled soon, they will be in the hospital.”
