BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Plans to help people impacted by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica are forming as the island begins putting the pieces back together.
The Central Alabama Caribbean American Organization is hosting a relief fundraiser at Bistro 19 in Bessemer Nov. 8. It costs $25 to attend and all proceeds will go toward relief efforts, plus 10% of bar sales.
Several of the organization’s members who live in Alabama were born in Jamaica and say recovery from a storm of this magnitude can be slow and is not an easy process.
“This is a third world country. There are roads that barely even regular roads that now no longer exist. Communities are cut off. A lot of people are without a lot of stuff, families, their lives, lives and livelihood has been changed dramatically,” said
