CRESTON, Iowa —

A man is in custody after police say he attempted to steal from and kidnap a minor in Creston.

Court documents reveal that the girl had arranged to sell a nicotine vape to 21-year-old Jayden Peavler after a social media exchange. The victim entered Peavler's vehicle, where he handed her an envelope that contained only a receipt.

The documents state that Peavler then tried to take the vape from the victim's hands and subsequently grabbed her, preventing her from leaving the vehicle.

The victim managed to call 911 using a voice-activated virtual assistant and was able to jump out of the moving vehicle.

Union County deputies arrested Peavler the following day, but he resisted arrest, prompting deputies to use a taser.
