VANCOUVER, Wash. (KPTV) - The SNAP benefit cutoff is approaching, and now many nonprofits, businesses and everyday people across the Portland metro area are finding creative ways to organize food for SNAP recipients who could face hunger.
Walking along Vancouver’s Main Street on Thursday evening with large donation boxes in hand, Margie Shepherd and Michael Mallars said it all started with an idea in a group chat — one that’s now called “Baddies for Community.”
When the friends from high school discovered that SNAP benefits were at risk, they wanted to do something to help.
“With a barrage of constant bad news, I think a little good feels good for everyone right now,” Shepherd said.
Within a week, they partnered with KXRW Radio and used social media and flyers to promote a food drive
