Government House in Canberra is holding its open day on November 1 from 10am to 2pm.

Governor-General Sam Mostyn will be there to greet the crowds.

Bring a picnic and spread out on the glorious lawns of Government House.

There will also be local food vendors on hand, while a sausage sizzle will be provided by the State Emergency Service.

On open day, there will be a chance to learn about some of the organisations to which the governor-general is patron. These include Cancer Council ACT, Girl Guides and Scouts, Playgroup Australia and Soldier On.

Staff will also explain about the Australian honours system, which is celebrating its 50 th anniversary.

Entry is free. Parking is available on Dunrossil Drive.

Pets (other than support/service dogs) are not permitted.
