(WSPA) - Former Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright was in federal court Thursday to plead guilty to three charges.
Wright agreed to plead guilty to charges of information charging conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, wire fraud conspiracy, and obtaining controlled substances.
After the plea hearing, Wright released this statement through his attorney:
"Today, I pleaded guilty in federal court because I am guilty. Not only did I violate the law, but I also broke the sacred trust the people of Spartanburg County placed in me. I do not have the words to adequately convey my remorse, my apologies, and my regret.
