TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)— Hurricane Melissa is expected to become an extratropical cyclone later today as it quickly moves away from Bermuda.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Melissa is located about 255 miles north of Bermuda and is moving toward the northeast at about 41 mph.

This motion is expected to continue into Saturday, before a gradual slowdown, and turn toward the east-northeast later this weekend.

MHC said Melissa is expected to pass to the south of the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland as a post-tropical cyclone tonight.

Maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph.

Meliss is expected to become a strong post-tropical cyclone later today, with gradual weakening over the weekend.

There are no watches or warnings in effect.
