Heavy snowfall occurred on Friday in areas along the India-China border, causing a significant drop in temperature across Sikkim. In many high-altitude areas, the mercury dropped below zero, affecting traffic on these routes.

Heavy to very heavy snowfall was recorded since morning in Nathula, Kupup, and Tsomgo (Changu) Lake and its surroundings. The IMD has issued a red alert for Sikkim, warning of worsening weather conditions in the next 24 hours.

Officials have advised tourists and transporters not to travel to high-altitude areas as roads have become slippery due to snow accumulation. Border Roads Organization (BRO) teams are continuously working to clear the snow.
