Kruger says it will be monitoring the water level situation in Deer Lake closely after announcing that it will have to temporarily shutter its newsprint production as of Monday.

Darren Pelley, VP special projects with Kruger, acknowledges that is not something that can quickly happen.
He says a “substantial” amount of rain will be needed to resume operations. He notes that the mill is an important part of the province’s electrical system, so they need to maintain their minimum levels so they can respect their commitments to NL Hydro.
