BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Firefighters are on the scene of a large fire at three commercial buldings in a Five Points South neighborhood.
It started just after 5:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of 20th Street South.
The wood frame business, which was had originally been a house, became fully engulfed in intense flames and the roof collapsed.
Flames and smoke reached high into the air and could be seen for a long distance.
Birmingham Fire and rescue crews said flames spread to two apartment buildings next door.
It was not clear if anyone was inside at the time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
