Syracuse, N.Y -- Witches’ hats and inflatable pumpkins might go flying tonight as high winds whip through Upstate New York on Halloween night .
“Winds will be howlin’ this Halloween,” the National Weather Service quipped. “Prime trick-or-treating time will see sustained winds at 15-20 mph, gusting to 35-40 mph.”
Wind gusts could be strong enough to knock down branches and power lines, causing scattered power outages, the weather service said.
A high wind advisory has been issued for nearly of Upstate New York from 11 a.m. today until 5 a.m. Saturday.
“Anchor down any outdoor decorations or they might fly away!,” the weather service advised.
Trick-or-treaters will also need umbrellas and warm clothes tonight as winds from the northwest bring lake effect rainfall and cold temperatur
