LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Louisville-based New Directions Home Repair, which originated in Louisville in 1993, utilizes volunteers and paid contractors to assist low-income, primarily elderly homeowners with free home repairs.
These repairs help ensure homeowners remain in their properties and assist with wealth building assets.
Officials with the non-profit say last year, they completed 305 repairs including yardwork, gutter cleaning, handrails, painting, minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical. With winter approaching, a tough economy, and the government shutdown, they expect say the same in weeks and months ahead. They also forecast some potential challenges for themselves.
