A judge in Belleville has found a Frankford man was not criminally responsible for a 2024 shooting because the man had a mental disorder.
Quinte West OPP charged Mitchell Barink, then 27, on Oct. 31, 2024. Police at the time stated a woman had been shot earlier that day; she suffered life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders arrived on Belleville Street in Frankford at about 2 a.m. and police issued a shelter-in-place order until they made an arrest nearby.

Barink appeared Thursday in Belleville’s Ontario Court of Justice before Justice Joseph Dart, where he was arraigned on the attempted murder charge.
