A Maryland man is facing charges he fled from the scene of a crash near Middletown after striking a 62-year-old electric bicyclist on the evening of Oct. 30 and killing him, Delaware State Police said.

The name of the bicyclist, from the Middletown area, is being withheld by police until his family is notified.

The bicyclist, according to police, was in a northbound lane or right shoulder of Middletown Warwick Road, about one mile north of Strawberry Lane. A Chevrolet Equinox was also northbound on Middletown Warwick Road, approaching the bicyclist about 7:50 p.m. More: She was trapped in a car wreck for 2 hours. For reasons under investigation, police said the Chevrolet struck the bicyclist, ejecting its rider onto the roadway.
