ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A student at a southwest Atlanta high school was arrested for trying to bring a gun into the building Thursday, according to the school district.

The student was stopped at the entrance of Booker T. Washington High School when the school’s Evolv weapon detection system identified the gun in their bookbag, said Seth Coleman, spokesman for Atlanta Public Schools.

The weapon was immediately confiscated by administrators and the school resource officer.

The student, who has not been identified, was arrested and taken away from campus. They face criminal charges and school disciplinary action.
