Mesa liquidation grocery store helps shoppers stretch budgets

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Jane Shuder’s grocery budget has to stretch, so the retired speech therapist has a shopping strategy.

“On Wednesdays, often there’s discounted items in grocery stores like Frys,” she said. “Safeway might have them as well. I make lists and I decide my approach of driving where and what else on the way, and then I go home and freeze.”

Before she gets to those sales, Shuder shops at American Discount Foods in Mesa, a family-run liquidation grocery store that’s been in business in the Valley for 27 years.

“Like anybody else, we want to supply the items that customers are actually looking for,” said Jonny Dekkers, an owner of the store. “We want to have a variety of things, so everything from snack items to health foods and organic items.”
