The time required for residents to respond to property maintenance bylaw infractions was a point of contention for Thorold city councillors this week.
Council ratified a city staff report Tuesday amending procedures providing property owners adequate notice that the city intends to take action when in noncompliance.
Coun. Tim O’Hare struggled with the short time for property owners to respond — generally eight days.
“I’m a little concerned of what happens (in) an odd case scenario should someone … for whatever reason not be available, (and) the notice goes unnoticed,” he said.
“Is there any way we can somehow ensure a person is really notified and understands that there’s a bylaw infraction?”
