Tributes have been paid to a much-loved Edinburgh dad who passed away following a three-year battle with cancer.

Alan Cunningham, 75, was diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2022 and sadly died on October 18 2025 at Marie Curie Hospice after his long fight.

He underwent various surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and spent time at the Western General Hospital before moving to Marie Curie.

Leaving behind his daughters, Jillian, 53, and Joanna, 51, Alan was described as "football mad" and a "really gentle guy".

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Jillian said: "He was a sports fanatic and football mad. He was a Partick Thistle fan but he would go and watch everyone from Spartans to Edinburgh City.

"He was obsessed and was involved in working at a cricket club too - he just absolutely loved spo
