The United States Ambassador to the UK, Warren A. Stephens, met with the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Rt Hon Douglas Alexander, at Queen Elizabeth House in Edinburgh on Friday.

They discussed the “£150 billion of investments agreed as part of the recent Economic Prosperity Deal and the next steps on detailed trade discussions between the UK and US Government”s” in the coming weeks.

The Ambassador and the Scottish Secretary discussed the deep and ongoing cooperation between the UK and the US on global security and defence, including the opportunities presented by technology and research cooperation.

The Secretary of State also raised the issue of Scotch Whisky tariffs, and both noted their desire to see negotiations between both Governments concluded at pace.
