WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump wants Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster to force an end to the government shutdown, but GOP senators have shown few signs of interest in stripping away the long-standing rule.

Late Thursday night, Trump posted on Truth Social Senate Republicans should get rid of the body’s filibuster rule. It requires most bills to receive 60 votes to overcome objections and pass rather than a simple majority.

Because Republicans currently hold 53 out of 100 seats, the filibuster has given Democrats the power to stop many bills from moving ahead, including the Republican government funding bill.
