A now-former Minneapolis Police Department recruit has been charged with DWI and carrying a firearm while over the limit following a rollover crash in northern Minnesota in mid-October.

Luke Tungseth, 37, of Blaine, was allegedly involved in a rollover crash on County Road 36 and Little Bass Lake Road in Emily, Crow Wing County, at around 8:40 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.

Tungseth was enrolled at the Minneapolis Police Academy but was not a sworn officer. MPD says his first day with the city was Oct. 6, and his last day was Oct. 20, three days after his arrest.

The charges against Tungseth say the Chevrolet Silverado he was driving was found in water on the south side of County Road 36, with paramedics checking Tungseth advising police arriving at the scene that he may be intoxicated.
