HANNIBAL (WGEM) - Residents in Hannibal will head to the polls next week to vote on two propositions in a special election.
Residents in Hannibal will have two propositions to vote on next Tuesday, Nov. 4. The first, Proposition 1, is to implement a 0.5% sales tax in the city to support emergency services.
“The people need the policemen, they need the firemen, and they need a little bit of extra money,” said Lori Fowler, a Hannibal resident.
The second, Proposition M, would give the Hannibal mayor the power to appoint people onto government boards as opposed to the city manager.
“It was more appropriate that elected officials make those decisions on those board seats instead of an unelected official,” Hannibal First Ward Councilman Scott Haycraft said.
