OMAHA, Neb. —

Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. and officials released their pilot program to address homeless encampments in Omaha.

Ewing said the plan, which includes the city of Omaha, Threshold Continuum of Care and Street Outreach Services, is for active encampments where people are sleeping overnight on city-owned or managed property.

'It's gotten bad':

The program will start Nov. 1 and run through April 30 and will include monthly reporting, leading to a six-month final report, officials said.

The plan outlines roles and responsibilities for those involved. The city of Omaha, led by the mayor's office and the homeless services coordinator, will handle reporting and triage, closure policy, case coordination, clean-up management and issues with private property.
