The federal government shutdown has triggered a temporary pause for a lawsuit and its appeal involving four University of Iowa international students.
Government lawyers pleaded with two separate courts to "stay" the case regarding the students' legal status because of the shutdown, which began on Oct. 1.
The shutdown has included some patchwork funding to keep active-duty military members paid and discussions have swelled over finding additional funding to avoid cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program . But lawyers for the Department of Justice are operating with limited resources, according to court documents.
