The King County Regional Homelessness Authority slashed its workforce by 22% this week, laying off 13 staffers and eliminating 15 vacant positions.

The authority’s chief executive officer, Kelly Kinnison, said the cuts were needed to help plug a $4.7 million budget gap for 2026.

In a board meeting Monday, Kinnison attributed the gap to waning COVID funding, the authority’s challenging cost-reimbursement model and the small share of revenue the authority allocates to administrative expenses.
