Mariachi Real de Seattle, Amelia La Catrina and Joyas Mestizas, Seattle’s first Mexican folklórico youth dance group, led community members in a procession through Evergreen Washelli Cemetery to honor Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, on Thursday, a traditional Mexican celebration in memory of deceased loved ones.
The culture-bearers enchanted visitors at the funeral home, where they performed near an altar displaying memorial pictures and various offerings to the dead.
The third annual gathering is one of the most popular events that the funeral home prepares for the various cultures they serve in the community throughout the year, according to funeral director Rico Diaz, who started the event.
“I think it gives people a connection, a way to heal with their loved ones,” Diaz said
