FARGO — Denver University is leaving the Summit League for the West Coast Conference next year. The move was announced Friday, with the Pioneers swapping trips to Fargo, Brookings, Grand Forks and Vermillion for San Diego, Malibu, Los Angeles and San Francisco among others.

They are also trading basketball conference tournament sites. Goodbye, Sioux Falls. Hello, Las Vegas.

This switcheroo only solidifies Denver’s reputation as an elite private academic institution.

It will also leave our beloved Summit League with only eight full-time members in 2026-27 unless commissioner Josh Fenton can find a school or two to add.

And that’s assuming there are no more defections.
