BED-STUY — A Bedford-Stuyvesant couple is suing the city government, alleging that an NYPD camera points directly into their bedroom in violation of their First and Fourth Amendment rights, reports the Intercept .
The federal lawsuit challenges the NYPD’s vast Domain Awareness System, which merges data from tens of thousands of public and private cameras, drones and databases to monitor the city. Attorneys from the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project call it a “voyeuristic policing platform.”
Plaintiffs Pamela Wridt and Robert Sauve say the camera has destroyed their sense of safety: “Your home is supposed to be your safe space, and I feel very violated,” Wridt said.
