PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An investigation is underway after an elderly man was struck by a car and killed in north Phoenix on Thursday evening.

Around 7:30 p.m., officers were called to the area of 32nd Street and Campo Bello Drive , north of Bell Road, for reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. Officers arrived and found the man, identified as 84-year-old Edward Pickles, seriously hurt in the road. Pickles was rushed to the hospital, but later died from his injuries.

Investigators say the driver involved stayed at the scene. Authorities believe that Pickles was crossing the street, not in a crosswalk, when he was hit by the car.

The driver was not impaired, but authorities say possible charges could be determined once the investigation ends.
