MAINE, USA — Maine's single area code isn't going anywhere soon.
According to a new report from the North American Numbering Plan Administrator, the 207 area code is now projected to last until the first quarter of 2050, five years longer than previously expected.
The last forecast, released in April, had projected the number's exhaustion date at 2045.
Maine will likely hang on to its one-area-code status for roughly 25 more years, putting it among the states with the longest remaining area code life spans in the country, according to a news release from the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
The commission credited the extended lifespan to efficient number management and ongoing consolidation. Conservation measures could be rolled out as soon as March 2026.
