KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — As families across East Tennessee brace for rising food costs and potential SNAP benefit delays, two local food pantries said they are already seeing more people seeking assistance.

Ladies of Charity in North Knoxville has expanded the number of families it serves each day. Staff say they are preparing for a continued influx as budgets tighten heading into the winter months. The organization provides groceries, baby formula, diapers and emergency food support, with an emphasis on helping families with young children.

“We’ve absolutely seen an influx of clients coming this week, preparing themselves for the unexpected consequences of SNAP delay in funding,” Executive Director Susan Unbehaun said. “We set the limit for 50 per day, and now we’re already up to 60.”
