CHICAGO -- A father who was detained by federal immigration agents near Chicago while his daughter fights cancer was released Thursday and reunited with his family, a family spokesperson said.
Ruben Torres Maldonado had been in custody since Oct. 18 after he was detained at a Home Depot.
He was held briefly at the detention center in Broadview, Illinois, before being moved to another facility in Indiana for the last week.
He headed back home late Thursday night, when he got to see his family again, including his 16-year-old daughter who is battling stage 4 cancer.
