Lawmakers plan to allocate $1 million per week to Oklahoma food banks serving all 77 counties for up to seven weeks.
The money will first go to vulnerable elderly, disabled individuals and child SNAP recipients while the federal government is shut down, according to a news release.
The money will come from the State Emergency Fund, which has $7.8 million. After a meeting on Monday, Nov. 3, where the Contingency Review Board will vote to approve the disbursement, the money will go out immediately.
The money will go out only if the federal shutdown continues, and the prior week's money has been expended.
