BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Birmingham Police Department held a news conference Friday afternoon, Oct. 31, about the deadly officer-involved shooting that happened Wednesday when 36-year-old Vanessa Ragland was shot and killed .
Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett opened the news conference explaining what happened from their point of view. He said there was an altercation between Ragland and her family before the officer fell to the ground and his TASER was taken from him.
That officer is currently on paid administrative leave while the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) investigates.
Chief Pickett shared new details, including why officers were called to the home that night.
