While a Friday afternoon federal order paved the way for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funding to continue, the local God’s Food Pantry had prepared to help local families in case that order didn’t come through.
There is still a need in the community for food assistance, however. God’s Food Pantry Executive Director Brenda Russell pointed out that the federal government shutdown that fueled the fear over SNAP funding being cut off came at a very bad time for families, not just for those who rely on SNAP to feed their families, but for those on other assistance programs as well as the federal employees themselves.
