BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Three people are part of the newest class of inductees into the Alabama Academy of Honor, which will hold a ceremony Monday.
Gov. Kay Ivey will open the ceremony as UAB President Ray Watts, Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson and civil rights activist Bernard Lafayette Jr. will be inducted.
The Alabama Academy of Honor is one of the highest accolades an Alabamian can receive, with over 260 people being inducted into the group since it was first created in 1965. Members include restauranteur Frank Stitt, former Birmingham Mayor Richard Arrington and historian Wayne Flynt.
The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. Monday at the Alabama State Capitol.
